Rehearsals begin promptly at 6:00-8:00 p.m. Students should arrive by 5:45 and be in their assigned seat ready to play at 6:00 p.m.

Our rehearsals are open, which means parents are welcome to attend rehearsals. However, all visitors are asked to refrain from talking or making noise while the conductor is on the podium, or addressing the orchestra. No cell phones please!

Cell phones and other electronic devices are to be used only during breaks and before and after rehearsal time. This includes visitors in the rehearsal room.

To participate in the auditions, you must meet the following requirements:

Students must currently be in grades 6-12.
Students must pass a performance audition given by the Conductor or the Music Director of the Scottsdale Philharmonic.

Students and parents/guardians sign audition form.

No food or drinks other than a water bottle are allowed in the rehearsal room.
Cell phones and other electronic devices are to be used only during the break, or before/after rehearsals. Have respect for our host. Do not write on the boards, tilt chairs back on their legs, lean on music stands, or play their percussion equipment.

Students abusing school or personal property will be removed from the orchestra.

Attendance Policy:
When an individual is absent from a rehearsal or concert it impacts the entire orchestra. Therefore attendance is required at all rehearsals and performances. Students missing more than two rehearsals may be removed from the orchestra, regardless of the reason for absence, at the discretion of the conductor.

Notify the conductor as soon as possible if you will not be attending a rehearsal.
No refunds, (or partial refunds) will be made to students that either quit or are removed from the orchestra.
Excused Absences:
Absences for a school concert, illness or family emergency will be considered excused absences. (Limited to 2 absences.) Advance notice needs to be given for absences for a school concert for it to be considered an excused absence. Call the Scottsdale Philharmonic office at 480-951-6077 to report an absence.

Chair Placement:
The Conductor will assign chairs based on student auditions and performance during the first few rehearsals. Results of the auditions will be made public as soon as they are available.

Music needs to be handled with care and treated with proper respect. Sheet music is not a disposable commodity. Students losing or damaging music may be charged a fee for replacement parts.
Please read and understand the following music guidelines:
Bring all SPYO music to every rehearsal. Do not count on your stand partner!

If you need to mark your music, do so very lightly with a No.2 pencil. Bring one to every rehearsal. Use NOTHING ELSE to mark music or you may be charged for the music.

Scottsdale Philharmonic Youth Orchestra does not carry insurance on musical instruments. Members should have their own insurance coverage against damage and/or theft.

Photo and Audio Release:
From time to time, photos and audio recordings are made during rehearsals or concerts for use in brochures, newspapers, the website, etc. Since photos are recorded live during student activities, we can not single out individuals who may not wish to be photographed. Therefore participation in any/all SPYO activities includes a photo and audio release.
